Finally decided to read this entire thread and contribute more than spacing.

First, it should be "i.e." not "e.g." in the opening post. I.e. means "that is" while e.g. means "for example". Yes, I'm starting off my response by being a grammar nazi.


Now in addition to a gunbattle between the Rayya's crew and Caludio mercs I've got something else to offer to the plot. The Truxtun is up and although it has but two crew members presently (three if I revive Jonathan for it) it can be used to help if you guys want. Of course it would be classic Alliance where they save the day only to impound both ships.

If we use the Truxtun then there are four options the way I see it:
1) Truxtun forces land on the planet and join whatever battle is happening. This seems like it would make the battle epic and lead to a Rayya "victory" even if there is serious confusion with Claudio guys posing as Alliance.
2) A brief space battle where Claudio's men are chasing and shooting at the Rayya. The Truxtun then blows them apart and then boards the Rayya.
3) Same as above except that instead of being blown up there is a boarding action and battle.
4) Same as above except that they peacefully surrender and get arrested/let out of jail because Claudio pulls strings.

I'm sure there can be more variations off of those suggestions but they all basically end in "help" coming in for the Rayya and then the Alliance sniffing around afterward. As I've mentioned in my presentation of the Truxtun, it is not your average by-the-book type ship so they are less likely to give more hassle than is required to fill out the paperwork after killing a bunch of mercs. Roger and Harper also have a history (isn't that convenient that all of my characters are connected) so that can probably expedite things and prevent Jin, Kyla, Kara, Dan, Skye, Chris ... basically the entire crew from getting arrested. That way we can get all the player backstory drama kicked up but without anyone actually getting pinched by the feds.

If we're set on having one or both of the kids grabbed then we can always do that and any interaction is with Claudio's boys trying to grab the elder Bruce with the others already snagged... so I guess we wouldn't be blowing them up in that case. IDK, talk it up and let me know.

What would happen, if the thugs in question were actually alliance boys, and they had official documents and such, they are just corrupt?

Well if they're waving guns around and shooting civies then their lives are naturally forfeit. If they surrender and lay down arms then they'll be rounded up allowing the Rayya to escape and then later released through the also corrupt bureaucracy.

Well I think it's unlikely they'd have a captain or an admiral. Also he's not directly under this supposed high ranking officer so this man's orders do not carry as much weight (him being in a firefight also makes his claim to such a rank suspicious). Still I'm not sure what would actually happen without actually RPing it out and seeing where things go. Circumstances could cause it to head either way.

Harper's directives are:
1) Serve the public trust.
2) Protect the innocent.
3) Uphold the law.
4) CLASSIFIED.

So I think breaking up the fight between apparent innocents and corrupt officials would fall under that... unless of course directive four countermands that.
