It had been a small while before he had set foot on a ship. The last time was on the ship of his infamous incident in which he shot the engine. Of course, what most people left out about that story was that other people were shooting at him. It wasn't like he took a gun and maliciously tried to murder the engine. That would be silly.
That whole incident had happened a good nine months ago, he had been grounded on Percephone ever since. It wasn't a bad lifestyle, but for someone who enjoyed moving around as much as he did, it was hellish and boring after the first couple of months.
He looked over at her when she teased about leaving him behind so she could get work done. And, he flashed her his most brilliant and dazzling smile to show how young and innocent he was. "Yeah...but you wouldn't do that to little old me would you....?" He asked, puffing out his lower lip, and pouting softly. His eyes looked something akin the eyes of a sad puppy dog.
He listened with rapt attention as she described the ship. It was quite interesting. Seven dorms. "So, how many crew do you have then?"
The wink was not lost on him, he knew a wink like that when he saw one. On occasion, his dealer had hired him to do a job or two to help him pay for his substance abuses. There was always something far more to any job whenever there was a wink involved. " What kind of transport jobs do you do?"

That puppy dog act had probably worked in the past for Sain, but Ari was having none of it. "Yeah, that won't work on me, kid. I let you get the best o' me with that look now, you'll be walkin' all over me the whole gorram time you're on this ship." She ruffled his hair and glanced around the cargo bay. It seemed empty. She wondered briefly where her crew was, and then was caught off guard by Sain's question about how many were on the Lenore.
She had to think for a minute. Haven and Bella were gone. Connor was gone...that one hurt the most. The men in her life never lasted. But they had picked up Grimm, a man she'd never thought she'd see again. Lost three, gained one. With the pilot, the doc, the gunslinger, the stowaway, the first mate, and her, that left..."Seven. Eight, includin' you." She had picked up his meaning, though, and shrugged. "You'll have a bunk. I keep my bed in the engine room."
After Connor had to be dropped off at a hospital because he'd fallen sick again, Ari had set up a small cot and a dresser in the engine room and fashioned a lock on its door. She didn't like the quiet of her dorm; the mechanic enjoyed listening to the roar of her ship, and it suited her to be so close in case something went wrong.

"Drats. You mean i have to think up a new way to get what i want?" He laughed a bit and put up the false pretenses of fighting back against her hair ruffling. "Oi! None o' that now! I have to busy my time with thinking up a different way to walk all over you." He took a moment to poke back at her with the tip of his pointer finger. Poking often won ruffles.
"Eight crew members, what about passenger quarters, do you also transport for them too?" He hoped he wasn't being quite too nosey, he just wanted to get to know more about what it was that they do on this ship. After all, her earlier response of 'Transporting' with the wink had gotten him curious, and he wanted to know what was to be expected of him.
His stomach made a light grumbling sound, and he patted it and grinned sheepishly. "Uhm....Would you mind to terribly much if we started the tour in the galley....?" A slight tinge of red was on his cheeks. He didn't like to make a request the first moment he set foot on a ship, but this was special. his tummy was gurgling and rolling around so much, he felt almost like he was going to start dry heaving.
And everyone knew, that vomiting in any way shape or form on the person who was going to be hiring you, was not a good way to keep a job.

She swatted his hand away playfully as he poked her. "To get what you want? Ya might have to actually work 'ard like the rest o' us." Ari shook her head and rolled her eyes at the mention of walking all over her. "You don't know me at all, kid. Ain't no one able to walk over me."
He was pressing the issue of the transport, and Ari was purposefully avoiding it. The kid would find out soon enough what kind of shady jobs the Lenore got into if he stayed on the boat long enough. She kind of hoped he would. He certainly made things interesting. "As for transport, we do a little o' this, a little o' that. You'll learn as we go alon'. We don't really have any passengers right now. Everyone on board is kinda crew." The word 'kinda' was used because of Ari's reluctance to claim Penny as crew, and also because Kylie probably wasn't staying much longer.
He blushed and asked in a roundabout way for food, and she grinned. "Sure, let's go there now, yeah? Maybe we'll find some o' the crew there." She brought him to the galley, a big room with a large table and a counter separating the kitchen from the eating area. No one was in the galley. "Hnh," she grunted, wondering where everyone was. Then she headed to the stove. There was a pot of chili on the stove; she had made it the night before for everyone. She spooned herself a bowl and gave him one as well. "Eat up. Tell me abou' yourself."

Everything seemed to fit nicely into place. Finally. The businesswoman dusted off her hands as she surveyed the shuttle. It essentially looked like an office, now. After getting permission and help from the mechanic, Jove had turned the little ship into her own mobile headquarters-- so to speak. This allowed her a little bit of freedom and movement to do business planetside without bringing anyone shady onto the ship and risking the crew. It was the last thing Jove would ever want to happen. Her business was always a little more dangerous than it seemed-- meetings and transactions held a lot more underlying "threat" than most other business. It also made her nostalgic. The sight of it all reminded her of the old shuttle she'd rented. The one on that beaten, but well-loved Firefly-class. Granted it, had been under the sometimes unstable leadership of a woman called Keen McCormick, but beggars couldn't be choosers in most situations. She ran a good ship, despite the random fights with her crew. Some kind of deep, underlying problems that had driven them to a suicide job and the loss of the woman herself.
Jove plucked a bottle off her desk, looking at the contents vacantly a moment as she soaked in the memories of another life. The layout was almost spot-on to how it used to be, and maybe that wasn't helping matters. Her gaze peered towards the closed door, and she'd lift her brows. She'd imagine the short, loud pilot with the on-and-off temper standing there. A smirk instead of his usual look of frustration.
A huff escaped the businesswoman, and the bottle was clunked down on the desk audibly. Jove dropped the scowl from her face and rubbed it away with both hands. The bowler on her bunk was forgotten as she headed out the shuttle-- she was hungry. Not looking to drink at all. And if she did, she needed some food in her. Maybe as a "just in case".
It didn't take long before she arrived in the kitchen, peering at the two inside. She'd clop in, ankleboots making a hollow sound on the floor. She was minus her waistcoat, and looking quiet casual and underdressed than usual. No business today, it seemed. Nothing to warrant her full get-up. Just a creased, loose white shirt and her grey, worn suit pants held up by her braces. Miss-matched blue and green eyes blinked at Sain, then looked to Ari.
"Alright, lov'? Who's this then? New recruit?" After the initial confusion, she pulled some manners out of her hat, so to speak and approached with a hand held out.
"Nice t'meet ya. Names Jove. You ever need anythin' specific, I'm your woman. Can get me 'ands on almost anythin'." She'd dip her head a little in greeting.

Rade cracked his back in the pilot's seat. One of the disadvantages of being the pilot: always having to sit in the pilot's seat. And if there was something else most pilots suffered from, it was a sore ass from all the sitting.
He stood up and stretched for a while. He was thirsty and hungry and decided to do something about that. He put on the autopilot and made a mental note to buy something to put in the chair next time they went planetside.
He had been missing Bella an awful lot, she was his best friend after all and he felt somewhat emptier without her. Parting ways with her was painful, and without her he felt a bit lost.
But fortunately there was young Penny who keeped things interesting. It was also nice to have a friend from back home along for the ride, and the constant bickering between Penny and Ari was usually amusing, given the fact things wouldn't go too far.
Rade walked to the galley, still stretching out all of his limbs. He sure missed Bella's cooking as well. The food had been somewhat questionable since she left, but like they said: hunger is the best sauce so he was ready to eat just about anything right now.
When he entered the galley, he noticed Ari sitting with the newcomer. He had yet to meet the kid as he didn't leave the cockpit often. Even less now that Bella was away.
He did however heard enough to come to the conclusion that the newcomer didn't feel like working to earn his keep. And that was something that couldn't be tolerated among a ship. Everyone, even Penny had earned their passage by hard labor.
"What's this Ari?" Rade asked. "Pretty boy here afraid of some hard work?"

"Well...If i can't walk all over you." He said, as he put a hand on her shoulder, and leaned in closely until hip lips were just a few inches from her ear. "Then i'll have to think of some other things to do to you instead." He said it quietly, with a little hint of suggestiveness behind his words. His breath on the lobe of her ear was hot and soft at the same time. He put a playful purr into his voice. "And work very hard to get it."
He let her go, and through his own wink at her. Two could play at the hidden meaning game. He just played it a little more directly then some.
"What do you mean by 'kinda'?" He asked, quizzically.
When they finally made it into the galley, and she handed him a bowl of chili. He smiled delightfully, and didn't even look for a place to sit down before he began to utterly devour the warm appetizing dish.
By the time she had asked him about himself, he had finished almost half of the bowl. He coughed a little bit, and swallowed the current mouthful. "About me...? Well, that depends..."How alliance friendly is this ship to the Fed's...?"
He would have gone a little further into the conversation about himself, but one of the other people on board came out. She walked up to him, holding out her hand. He thought about it for a moment, on the one hand, he wasn't done eating. On the other, he didn't want to seem impolite. So he set his bowl down and took her hand and shook it heartily.
"Nice to meet you , my name is Sain. I'm not officially apart of the crew yet. Ari hasn't said whether or not i was officially recruited yet." He said with a small laugh.
By the time he let go of her hand, another of the crew members came in. This one, wasn't quite as polite as the last two however. Sain could already tell that he was going to get on just famously with the man.
Of course, he still had enough of his witty remarks left in his armory to field a decent comeback. "Why thank you for the compliment cutey pie, but i'm afraid you're just not my type." He said, a she put on his best smile and cocked his head to the side slightly, and angled his body just a tad.
Just a tad bit enough to launch a full kick at the man should he need too. Sure, his leg would absolutely despise him for it, it may even give out depending on how much pressure he put on it. But if need be, he would go down with the guy. Of course, he hid all of this meaning in his shifting his standing as best he could. And held out a hand to him, on theoff chance he wouldn't need to resort to a confrontation to deal with him. "Nice to meet you fella. The name's Sain. And to answer you're question, no, i ain't afraid of hard work."
It suddenly occured to Sain, that should he attack this guy, he would be outnumbered.

Rade just shook his head at what Sain said. If this guy was going to be trouble, he would be ready for it. As the quick-draw that he was, he'd kill him a hundred times over before he so much could take a swing at him. Just the way Rade handle fights. He didn't believe in fair fights, just in winning or losing. And you had to win in every way that you could.
"Great, a wiseguy." Rade said. "I got dibbs on spacing him if he gets outta line, okay guys?"
Rade then took a cup out of a cabinet and a proteinbar and a can of Blue Sun cola out of the fridge without turning his back on Sain, and started walking out of the galley.
"Let me know if he gets outta line." Rade said. "I'll be happy to make him go on a nice relaxing stroll out in the black."
Rade then walked back to the cockpit with the food and drink in his hand, making a mental note to ask to let Penny burglarize Sain's bunk. Something was definately off with this guy.

Heavy footsteps signaled the coming of the captain, the man strolling into the kitchen with a brow raised, surveying the environment as he kept his arms behind his back. He had on a dark overcoat over what appeared to be a black and white vest, a white button up that was untucked in his black slacks, and a matching black tie that he kept loose around his neck.
"Nobody's spacin' no one yet, and they sure as Hell won't be doing it without my permission.[/i]"
Grimm stepped in front of Sain, glancing him over a few moments as he ate, carefully reaching down to his shoulder and picking a piece of lint off it. He surveyed the lint as he continued to speak to Sain.
"Name's Grimm. Newly appointed captain... Do you hear that? It's like a cacophony.[/i]"
He paused as he looked around the kitchen, wincing and trying to pinpoint the noise that he heard. Of course, there was no noise, but his brain had a way of playing tricks on him from time to time. Grimm's eyes narrowed back on Sain.
"I believe in hard work, knowing your place, and listening to orders. I ain't had many problems with that in the past. The problems I did have didn't last long. So...[/i]"
He dropped the lint and pat Sain's shoulder. Maybe a little bit harder than necessary.
"Maybe show a little more respect for the woman here for starters. Shiny?[/i]"
He smiled pleasantly and walked to Ari, his eyes darting left and right in the kitchen. He twitched a bit in the face as he kept on looking around.
"If you have some lettuce, that would be fantastic, Ari.[/i]"
He makes a motion with his hand that is similar to a skittering bug, nodding his head towards his new bunk.
"Gotta feed the little guys.[/i]"

Ari's eyes narrowed as Sain came in close. Unluckily for him, he came in on her left side. As he pulled away, she grabbed the hand that had touched her shoulder and used his own weight to jettison him towards her. The hand she held in hers she twisted up behind his back as she pulled him to her. Her other hand gripped his throat as she held him close, her chin over his shoulder now, her breath in his ear. "It's all fun 'n' games, kid, 'til you come up on my left side. Don't ever do it again." The mechanic's voice was dark. However, she seemed to realize she had overreacted, and quickly released him. "Sorry, luv. Old habits die hard, yeah?" She pointed at her left eye. "Almost blind in this 'un. I don't like people comin' at me from that side. Also, I may be flirty, but I ain't that easy. Whisperin' at me ain't gonna work, kid." She shook her head with a laugh and clapped him on the back, hoping there were no hard feelings.
She waved off his question about what 'kinda' meant. "You'll meet everyone soon enough, then you'll find out, yeah?" Although Sain did not take a seat to eat his food, Ari hooked one out with her foot and reclined, propping her heavy boots on the wall beside the table. She cradled the bowl in her lap and spooned it out a little at a time. "We ain't friendly with the feds. We stay outta trouble, but most o' us are browncoats." She never did mind telling others where she stood. Ari was afraid of no one.
Jove walked in, and she grinned at the businesswoman. "You look nice, Jove," she winked, teasing her about her lack of dress clothes. Rade came in and fired off a retort, as he was wont to do, but before Ari could come back with a reply, Grimm stepped in. Ari's feet immediately dropped to the floor as she straightened in her chair. The mechanic had always been a little lax in the way she acted on the ship, but the crew members had probably noticed a change in her whenever Terrance was around. She was always a little more at attention, a little more focused. Old habits die hard, as she had told Sain earlier.
Incredibly, when Grimm mentioned that Sain should treat women with a bit more respect, Ari blushed and lowered her head. She wondered if that mean he had seen them flirting. For some strange reason, she really hoped he hadn't. Or if he had, that he knew it was just the way she was and that it didn't mean much.
As Rade exited, she nodded towards his retreating back and spoke to Sain. "So...that was our pilot. Rade." She snickered a little, then stood to go wash her bowl. She dried it and set it in the drain, then turned around. Terrance was right in front of her. She glanced up at his face, trying to see the man she knew...trying not to notice the strange twitches. "Sure thing, Cap!" The mechanic grinned and bent to the little fridge they had beneath the counter. She pulled out a couple of leaves and wrapped them in a napkin for him. "This alright?"

Sain wasn't quite sure what had just happened, whatever had happened, it had happened fast, and it had happened furiously. And his arm was behind him, and her hand was on his throat. It would appear that he had hit a sore spot. This was good to know. "Well...Thank god i found this out before i made an ass of me'self." He coughed lightly when she released him, and clapped him on the back. "Is it weird that when people put me in a possibly life threatening hold it doesn't really bother me anymore?"
He shared in on her laughing a little bit. "Well, nothing seems to work on you then, eh?" He rubbed his wrist a little where she had gripped it. That was the fifth most painful hold he'd been in this year. "Could this be a sign that i should repent my flighty and whimsical ways....?"
"Well, as long as i meet them at some point....Preferably not hiding in my bunk, because that wouldn't be to fun." They weren't alliance friendly? Well, that was good. None the less, he gauged on how to answer the question. They were independents, the odds they knew who his father might have been were decent. Then again, the last time someone knew who his father was, he got shot in the leg. The metal contraption on him told everyone how that turned out.
Rade's threat to space him, was one that Sain didn't really care to hear. He had seen what taking a long cold walk outside into the black could do to a person without the proper suit on.
"Look on the bright side." He said, picking up his bowl of chili, and spooning a bit more into his outh, which he finished before continuing. After all, it was impolite to talk with ones mouth full. "Better i'm a wise guy then some two-bit spacer who thinks that because they served on some cruise liner they know everything about everything." Sain, did not in fact know anything about anything. He did however, know a little bit about crewing a ship, repairs, even a little bit of medical fieldwork should the situation ever come to it. He even knew a few moves in hand to hand that would have come in handy had Ari been a six foot seven hairy gorilla man intent on doing him more then a little arm twisting.
Thankfully, he was saved in the short term when a fellow came in. Something was off about this fellow. From what Sain had guessed, upon seeing Ari straighten out, that this guy must have been the captain.
Which was a little awkward for him. Sain, was a drug user. And for a moment, he thought the captain was too. Of course, everyone had their own tellings when something was wrong, just like when they were on drugs.
Sain opened his mouth to speak to him. He couldn't help but straighten his back a little more. Some captains he had traveled with, would shoot a man for not showing he proper etiquette. He set his bowl down. "Well sir. See'in as it's in my nature to act as i act. To me, it seems that respect is a matter of perspective. Ari over here has been a nice, and wonderful host here aboard this vessel. I feel at relative ease with her, and it makes talking easier. I apologize if it seems too forward of me, but i prefer to treat those who are easy to get along with with the respect one would show a friend, or someone who could become a prospective friend. Ari knows there was a simple misunderstanding, right?" He looked over at Ari for a moment. Unless she actually felt like he was going to try to rape her, he should be good. Worse comes to worse, he leaves the ship, under a hale of gunfire, but he would still leave the ship.

Jove liked a nice handshake from a person. No matter where you came from, it was all good business ethics. A grin stretched across her face as she shook the hand back, just as firm. A firm shake meant a sense of confidence. Everyone needed some. But apparently he'd gotten a little too confident with the resident mechanic. Jove couldn't say she'd ever seen Ari move like that, and sometimes envied those that fought better than her. She wondered if it'd improve her business sense if she could literally twist people's arms. The thought almost entertained a smirk, but she caught Ari's little comment with a glance down at her shirt. The edges had been tucked in with no mind to detail, and she actually sorted it out with a slight chuckle.
"I've managed good biz'niss lookin' like this before." She'd wink. "People don' expect a sharp mind when y'don't look so sharp."
Another chuckle was cut short when the Captain had entered. Jove couldn't say she'd seen much of him, or gotten used to him, yet. She had a record of Captains she either saw very little of, or happened to be a little unstable. Grimm appeared harmless enough to the rest of them. But those unassuming ones always turned out being the most deadly. But Jove was how she was with all "authorities", polite and respectful. No other way to be until you figure a person out. She trusted Ari's decisions, though, and if she believed him a good leader, then Jove would give him the benefit of the doubt.
As she moved to get a cup, she'd watch the exchange between Sain and Grimm. It was almost comical, but not enough to warrant a smirk. It was also a little unusual. Still, Jove didn't say much else, just poured out some tea, and blew across the surface of it, watching the rest.

Grimm kept the lettuce wrapped up in napkin, smirking down at it before he winked to her. Usually a sign that he was grateful for something. He peered up to Sain as he spoke, surveying his facial expressions and the rigid posture. He chuckled lightly, patting his shoulder a bit before shaking his head.
"Son, if you think I'm the one you should be scared of, think again.[/i]"
He pointed his thumb behind him to Ari.
"I seen her break more hands than you've shaken. Just show her the respect she rightly deserves, and you'll be able to keep finger painting.[/i]"
He chuckles and pats Sain's shoulder again before glancing over his shoulder to Jove. He takes a few steps up to her and extends his arm, tilting his head to the side.
"Ma'am, you look awfully familiar.[/i]"
He thinks a few moments, scratching at his chin as he grits his teeth in thought, closing his eyes tightly.
"God, I can't think with all that noise.[/i]"
There was no noise.
"In any case, it's Grimm, I'm your new captain. What's it you do on the ship, ma'am?[/i]"
He snapped out of it, realizing she most likely had taken his hand, and was careful to shake it before he nodded his head back towards his bunk.
"Need to say hey to the pilot real quick, but I'll get back to you.[/i]"
He gave a short wave to everyone, holding the lettuce tightly as he meandered through the ship to his bunk. It was easy enough to navigate, even with the constant noise that the captain was sure he was hearing. Once he'd gotten to his bunk, he peered into his little collection of bugs. They were all kinds of sizes and colors, the tank taking up almost the entire wall. It was obvious it'd been rebuilt a couple of times to accommodate all the new additions, but he took the leaves and evenly distributed them across the tank, all of the herbivore creatures immediately rushing over to eat. They chewed as he watched, taking a seat to enjoy their company for a while.
After a few minutes, he'd pull himself out of his bunk and walk down the hallway towards Rade. The door opened with a push, and he was in the cockpit, surveying the area. He looked down to Rade and raised a brow.
"Aaand you must be the pilot. I'm Captain Grimm.[/i]"
He extends his hand.
"You tell all new recruits you're gonna space 'em, or is that just for the special ones?[/i]"

The mechanic was glad Sain didn't seem to take her actions too hard. He even had a sense of humor about it. "It's not that nothin' don't work on me, it's that I just ain't known you long enough to be interested." She winked, but Ari knew her relationship with this young man would probably never be any more than flirtatious.
She was surprised, but pleased at Sain's reaction to the Captain addressing him. When he glanced in her direction to corroborate his story, she inclined her head. "We was jus' funnin', Cap. No harm done. You know I can take care o' myself." Her lips split in a dazzling grin that she aimed at Terrance. "You flatter me, Grimm. Ain't broken that many hands." Grimm moved to speak to Jove, and Ari smiled at Sain and patted him on the shoulder as she passed.
When Grimm wandered off to find Rade, and most likely to feed his insects, Ari stuck out her bottom lip and blew her bangs out of her face with a big huff. "He may seem a li'l...off, but I've known 'im for years. Was the commander of a special ops unit I was in durin' the war. He's the best Captain I coulda asked for to replace our old one after 'e got sick," she explained to Sain, then winked at Jove. "He knows you from somewhere? Or he jus' speakin' nonsense?"

Those miss-matched blue and green eyes blinked a little as the Captain approached, but it was only when he spoke that this little confused expression formed. A brow perked up and her head inclined to the side thoughtfully. She'd give Grimm one look up to the top of his head and straight down to his boots. The only familiarity she had of him was since he'd stepped on this boat. Never seen the man before in her life, so it begged the question of where he'd seen her. It was somewhat perplexing. Unless she had a twin out there she didn't know about.
Jove didn't fancy any more siblings, really. One had been more than enough, and she still wished she was an only child. Or just to forget she wasn't. Morris always caused a flare of annoyance in the back of her mind, so she chose not to give him the satisfaction. A smile broke out on her lips, because it was the only natural course of action when faced with something as unusual as this.
"Oh? Maybe I got one o' them faces?" She offered, shrugging as he seemed to be unable to recall.
At the "noise" part, she'd tilt her ear a little, seeing if she could hear what it was he was talking about, but Jove heard nothing, and wondered if there really was anything there. It was a little unsettling. Maybe he didn't recognise her. Maybe it was just him being.. strange?
Oh. He was introducing himself. Jove grinned politely and took the hand to shake it.
"Businesswoman by trade, sir. I'll be workin' out the ship's shuttle for a fee and conductin' business wherever we land. If I come across a job, or supplies y'might be needin' I'll be more than 'appy to share it with the crew."
Grimm was already off, though, and Jove had been hoping to learn more of where he'd seen her before. She had be a local face on a few worlds. Notable in business areas. Maybe that was where? Either way, she'd nod as he moved to leave. It wasn't something she needed to know in a hurry. It was probably nothing. Or a case of mistaken identity.
Jove turned her head towards Ari and shook it.
"Dunno. I don' know 'im." The businesswoman said with a light shrug, but didn't seem overly bothered by it.
