When she asked if it mattered where they sat Ezekiel started to tense a little. Naturally he always drifted towards a back corner booth where he could see all the entrances and exit's of places. He always canvased restaurants before eating at them, and he hardly eat out. To many variables to account for. but he was trying to fit in. He had been on the job for to many years. He still had work to be done but he needed to enjoy the few years he had left.
Ezekiel never know if tomorrow would be his last and he was trying to make sure he lived a life worth dieing for.
" It doesn't matter to me where ever you prefer is fine with me." he said with a smile but in the back of his mind he was screaming YOU DAMNED FOOL!!.

Ned chose her favorite spot: a little table by the window where the sunlight hit. She sat down and nudged out the other chair with her foot for Zeke. She wasn't entirely sure what the proper etiquette was for sitting down at a restaurant with someone. Her parents had tried to teach her once, but she had never bothered to remember. One person was supposed to hold out the other's chair, though, and in a casual place like this she supposed that pushing it slightly away from the table could count.
When a server came up to their table, Ned asked for her usual: whatever meat was freshest with a little plate of rice and a bowl of light soup. The girl nodded, repeated the order under her breath to make sure she had it right, and turned to Zeke.

Ezekiel walked over and sat down. Being an artsy woman he was afraid she may choose a window seat out of his peripherals he took a quick survey of the restaurant out of habit. She placed her order and then the waitress looked over to him. his reaction was to say nothing for me thanks but that would be rude. so instead he said" Surprise me. what ever you think the best dish in the house is i would like." He wasn't one for trying new foods but he thought to himself you only live once.
After the waitress walked away Ezekiel looked at Ned " I take it you come here often?" He said with a smile on his face.

"As often as I can. I do visit some of the more expensive places around here, but only if I got a lot of customers and think I deserve a little treat. This place is nice enough for everyday eating, though." She looked around and recognized a few other people who came here often. An errant thought occurred to her, and she wondered briefly if she would miss this place when she moved on from Persephone. She probably would; there were always places like this, no matter what planet she visited.
"Where do you think I should visit next?" she asked. "You seem like you've seen a fair number of sights. What would you recommend for a wandering artist?" She smiled as she spoke. She was curious about what he would suggest, but she also wanted to start a little conversation but had never been terribly good at the beginnings of talking to someone.

Ezekiel thought for a moment and honestly for a traveling artist a core planet would bring her the most money but Ezekiel wasn't one for the core planets. but he thought he would see what she was interested in. " Well the core planet's would make you a lot of money Hera has a lot of history and Paquin is a beautiful place with lots of things to do just don't let your purse out of your sight." he said the last part with a smile. there where lots of places to see and some of the core worlds really weren't that bad he just would never want to go to one to much trouble could be caused there for his sake.

Ned smiled in response to his little joke, but her mind was sorting through what she knew about Paquin and Hera. She hadn't been to either, but she was curious. Paquin sounded like a wonderful place for an artist, and she might even dabble in acting. She had been in a few plays at school and might be able to get a few bit parts. Hera, though... the name was familiar, but she couldn't place it.
"I don't think I've been to Hera," she said cautiously. "Have you? I mean, I know I've heard of it, but I can't place why. Oh, it's right on the tip of my tongue, though." She drummed her fingers on the table. "What's it famous for?"

Ezekiel adjusted in his seat a little he had been on Hera a few times during the war he had some missions to do while he was on the planet. Truth be told he didn't know a thing about the planet. He just knew its tragic ending. It was full of history. Serenity Valley was a tragic lose for the independents. One that he regrets helping the wrong side win. He had lots of skeletons in his closet but today was not the day to let them out.
" Hera is the planet that the Battle of Serenity Valley took place on. Most say that is where the independents lost the war." He didn't know if he would go that far the independents stood little chance against the much larger and more technologically advanced alliance.

"Oh." Ned couldn't think of much else to say besides that. She had only heard bits and pieces of the Battle of Serenity Valley, as it had been after Eldon's death and when her interest in the war changed from actively following the battles to hating her father and the Alliance. Even so, she had felt sick and worn out when she heard the Independents had lost. It had been days before she could speak to anyone without crying, and she still sometimes wondered if her brother had died for nothing.
She was spared from having to provide more conversation on the topic when the food arrived. Ned took her plate and eagerly ate a few bites. It was just as good as she had expected and felt wonderful. When she had first started working as an artist, she hadn't thought that sitting on a stool and drawing would take too much effort, but now she was used to being famished and exhausted after a long day. "It's quite good, isn't it?" she asked. "Not quite Core-standard, but then what is out here?"

Ezekiel could smell the food it smelt very nice.
" I don't usually go to the core planets these days. To much regulation. They have gotten more militaristic since unification" Not to mention the large bounty he had on his head for desertion. but he didn't think she needed to know about that. Hopefully the Alliance would just forget about him in time. He knew that wasn't likely but flying low and staying off the radar was fine by him. After his son is grown and ready to take his fathers place he would make a grand gesture that the Alliance couldn't ignore. He thought of killing the real players but that would be his sons job. He was just going to make a statement to the public.
" The food is very good. I actually prefer most of the non core planets food. Generally less chemicals in them. It may lack some of the flavor. But it is more natural." he wasn't a super consciences person about natural or artificial but he did know that the alliance messed with the food a lot. They generally started with the far outer rim where they felt they could get away with it. Like what they did to the people of Miranda.
" so do you just travel with the wind or do you give yourself a deadline on each planet?"

"I used to try not to spend too much time in one place," Ned said. "When I started out, I would move around each week, even if it was just to a new part of the same planet. Now I hang around for as long as I feel like. I hung around on Whitefall for months, and only partly because I couldn't find a ship that would take me off." She chuckled a little. Whitefall had been nice enough, but visits from ships to anywhere but the more populated areas had proven to be few, and most of them didn't look too fondly on taking on poets. "Other times, though, I'll only be there for a day or two."
Like Osiris. She had been back only once since leaving, and that had lasted just a few hours. It had been long enough for her to find a ship to the farthest point of the Rim and to renew her promise -- now broken -- never to return.
"What about you? I've heard some wanderers follow the three nights rule: only spend three days and three nights in a place before moving on."

Ezekiel smiled when she chuckled " Ya places that far out can be a little hard to get a decent ride on."He enjoyed her laugh it had been a long time since he heard someone genuinely chuckle. It may not be much to some people but when you've had the kind of life Ezekiel has you miss the small things.
" I don't have a general rule but i usually find a place and stay for a little while. I used to be on a ship for a while but that had run its course." he wasn't going to bore her with his assisted rescue of the crew. A lot of people had guns but then there where some who detested them and he didn't know which one she was. He also didn't want her to think he was trying to show off. In his younger years he would have loved the chance to show how macho he was but that was a younger mans game, and that time of his life had past.
Ezekiel was growing kind of brave at this point they had covered a lot of little things but they hadn't gone any deeper then the surface. He had a good cover story and if she wanted details he would bore her to tears. " I'm surprised your drifting to be honest. You seem to be a smart woman, i guess i would have figured you would have some little ones under foot and a man on your arm. I hope you don't find my comments rude I'm just a little curious." He realized that he may be over stepping but he figured why not lets give it a shot.

Ned was surprised by his remark, and she began to wonder what would have happened if things had gone a little differently. If Eldon hadn't died, or if she and her father had made up rather than continued their fight, she might have stayed on Osiris. She would have finished up her education first, of course, but afterward there could well have been a young man who caught her eye, maybe even a doctor. By now, even though she was still rather young, she might have a kid running around her feet as she moved through their home, perhaps pregnant with a second child.
"I was never that interested in children," she said. It was true, but only part of the truth. "They're nice, I suppose, but I was never one of those girls who dream of being a mother. I wasn't too interested in getting married either. After I dropped out of university, drifting was just about my only option." She wasn't sure whether to let that hang or ask him if he had any children. On the one hand, she didn't want to create an awkward silence, but she also didn't feel like prying. In the end, her decision was that if he had brought it up it was an open subject. "Do you have any family?"

Ezekiel had opened the door to the question he didn't really know how to answer it though. He did have a son but didn't know about him until before Miranda happened. His son was in hiding. training learning he was going to be everything the Alliance wanted only this time he was going to be after them not working for them.
He decided to give some honesty a try. not the whole truth but some of it. I do have a child but he was taken from me when he was very young. I hope someday he will be strong enough to fight back against the people who stole him from me." there may be more poking and prodding on the subject but he didn't think she would pry to much.
All that he said was basically true he just left out the darker parts of it.

"I'm so sorry." Ned wasn't sure what she had been expecting, but it would have been more along the lines of him never having married or possibly having a child somewhere. "I can't imagine what that must be like." There were so many questions she wanted to ask, but there was a tone to Zeke's voice that implied he would rather she not. Instead, she turned back to her food for a few minutes.
For her, it felt as though a pall had fallen over the conversation. She wanted to continue but wasn't sure what there could be to say. Finally, if only to keep herself from being silent for too long, she asked, "What was your childhood like? Where did you grow up? If you don't mind my asking, that is."
