The thug fellow left and Rade thought good riddance. For now. Rade knew that thugs had a nasty habit of coming back in numbers, but for now he didn't worry about it. His biggest worry was getting hired aboard the Riley.
As Rade waited for the captain's response, he noticed another man coming out of the ship. The guy looked way older than Rade, probably because of the 5 day beard he had on him. Rade couldn't quite figure out yet what kind of task this guy had on the ship. He sure as hell hoped the guy wasn't the pilot.
The new face quickly made his way over. Rade put his defences up as soon as the man stood next to the captain. It almost looked as if this man was aching for a fight. Unfortunately for him, he didn't know Rade never involved himself in fistfights. Instead he always immediately drew his gun. Rade put his right hand off his hip and let it dangle casually next to his right leg just in case.
Rade noticed that the man had now put his hands in his pockets and realized there was a chance he could be reaching for something, even though it seemed innocent. Rade now put his right hand closer to his holster, ready to draw his gun.
The man also made a mistake as soon as he looked at Rade in a way that seemed arrogant. And when he whistled lowly and shook his head in a condescending way, Rade realized that this man was looking down on him, something Rade didn't take to kindly to. Rade assumed this guy was going to give him trouble, and that assumption seemed correct as soon as the man started talking.
"Problem, Faye?" he asked the captain.
Faye. The pretty redhead captain had a name. Rade found it a shame he couldn't ask for it himself anymore now. But this was no time to get distracted. There was going to be trouble.
Rade started touching the butt of his revolver gently and subtly and barely noticeable with his right ringfinger. It seemed that everywhere he went and everything he tried to do, things could never go his way, no matter how hard he tried. There was always someone trying to screw it up.
Rade had hoped to get hired on a ship, instead it seemed he was heading for yet another disappointment. He found less joy in the fact that there was going to be trouble in a minute, because he had really set his heart on getting off Persephone today.
Rade wasn't planning on shooting the bearded fellow, but he knew that if this guy took so much as a swing at him, he'd be eating lead.
For once Rade wasn't going to goad someone. Instead he took his eyes of the guy and looked into captain Faye's big blue eyes. Rade never had a problem looking into people's eyes. Only looking into his own seemed troublesome from time to time. Rade still saw the man in the corners of his eyes though, just in case he was going to be stupid. In the back of his head he was hoping captain Faye would call off the guy, and in a way he was trying to tell her that by looking into her eyes. He could only hope the message would come over.
