well I think it might be worth checking out. This is a touchy thing though. Though I rarely get on facebook these days I have to say I have heard alot of complaint about new "improvements" to facebook. I will go look at what they have but updating a sever with alot of changes to it can be unsettling to people especially people who have seen this site look the same for quite some time.
The idea of better ways to search the site for posts is nice but we need to see how close it feels to this and see if it is possible while implementing a new system to make it as much like this one as we can keep it and implement new features slowly.
I am not sure if that all makes sense. Basically Change is hard but good. The pace of change is what will help keep people from getting scared of the change. I think we should look at what is has to offer and see what can be done with it though.

I think it'd be worth checking out; my only worry is if we decide to change our forum to the new version if it'll not get along with the current coding, it'd be fixable I'm sure if anything went screwy it'd just take time. But I'm all for trying it out

I'm worried about the changes, myself. I'm fairly adept at html, but proboards coding has always been sort of difficult for me. I wish there was a way I could see how it all works before just changing the entire site over. I'm also worried that there will be no way to revert back if we change our minds and don't like it.

well as far as making sure the coding worked. I think the best thing to do would be just make a temporary test forum to plug it all in to first. Then we can see what can be kept and what may need an update. Once we find all that out we can have it set to move here and put to practice if we are to go that route.
My biggest worry is losing people over an issue with the forum. I remember playing on a different Firefly forum before I came to this one and It changed server completely. It took them weeks to get everyone over to it and we lost alot of people along the way. Then the total differences in how things worked killed it even more. It went from 250 memebers with about 30 posting a day to less then 100 memebers with maybe 5 posting a day.

Urgh. I was excited until I looked at the changes. From what I can tell they're trying to move more towards a social networking purpose... and I'm not too fond of that. But I've never been big on proboards to begin with, with the exception of a few sites. I'm going to suggest we keep it like it is. At least for now.

I agree with Lindsi, it seems like they're basically trying to merge Proboards with Facebook, which is dumb in my opinion. I've never been a fan of MyFace, BookSpace, Twit-Tweet, or any of the others and I don't think a "Like" button or a Yahoo-esque avatar creator will be of any use to us here on The 'Verse.
