Echo Donovan was actually born Ophelia Marlease in the Spring of 2485 on Bellerophon, her parents were wealthy as one would expect of the residents of Bellerphon. They spared no expense on their first daughter, she got everything she asked for and had the finest schooling. Her sister Sophia was born four years later, Echo's parents began to push aside their first daughter now, their attentions were on Sophia. Her father worked his business from their home, he and a few employees spent their time building and developing computers of all sorts. Around the age of 10 Echo began to spend quite some time around her father's employees, learning some basic things from them. They were happy to teach her it turned out, despite the fact that they actually disliked her father.Personality Traits/Flaws:
The enjoyment of all things technical and electronic continued through-out Echo's schooling, which cast her as sort of an outcast with her fellow students. While her younger sister flourished and became the popular girl in school. Which was fine with Echo, she never became very close to Sophia. There was one thing that Sophia and Echo were in agreement on; that Jaden Morse was the most handsome and charismatic boy they'd ever seen. Though with her quiet and shy nature Echo never really made an effort to become his friend, Sophia however had no problem in that area.
It was in her senior year of school, when Echo was 18, that she became interested in joining the Alliance military. They'd had a visit from a few recruiters, one of them being a tech specialist. Echo took immediate interest as she heard about what the man did, she even found herself asking questions which was out of character for the girl. After classes ended she found him again and asked for more information, the pair spent 3 hours together passing information back and forth. Echo was certain that this was something she'd love to do. Little had anyone known she'd been spending late nights in her father's work area, developing a computer for her own uses. It took her 6 months of only getting 2 hours of sleep a night to complete her project, and to her it was beautiful. By now it was time for her to graduate and finally enlist into the Alliance.
Echo's parents took her decision quite well, they had their worries but they were proud of her. Basic training was rough on her, she turned out to not be the best fighter, but that's not the reason she was here. She excelled in the technical side of things, that's probably what got her through. Over the next 2 years Echo spent most of her time in an office, learning how the Alliance ran things, it was alot of knowledge to take in but she did it. In her free time she was usually in her room on her computer, the very one she'd built for herself. She taught herself some basic hacking skills, it was a thrill, though she kept it very small-time.
It was then that the war began, Echo was 21 and only 2 years out of her basic training. She was being sent out on a ship as one of their tech specialists. Jaden was there, the boy from school, he was one of the ship's pilots; he was still handsome and charming. He'd recognized her too, though she was shocked at that fact. The regiment didn't see much in the way of action for awhile, until they got orders to head to a rim planet near the end of the war. The ship they were in took a hit and couldn't stay in the air, Jaden made the landing though, rough but they were in one piece. They were alone, there were no other ships or regiments close to their location. The entire crew on the ship ended up being taken as prisoners of war, they were treated poorly. The environment was bad, the independents that had taken them always said cruel things to them. They hardly ate and had water, it was a blessing that the war would end soon. However it was too late for 4 of their fellow officers, the malnourishment and poor conditions had taken too much of a toll on their bodies.
While on duty at the age of 24 Echo met an officer named David Knoxin, he was 26 and a mechanic. They were both stationed at the same base on Osiris, their courtship was short and sweet. They got married in secret, neither of them wanted a big ceremony. It was Christmas 2 years later when Echo's world fell apart, she'd noticed her sister took an interest in David but he didn't seem to care. Though one night she woke up thirsty, David wasn't there with her, she got up to go downstairs but stopped once outside the door. She heard noises from her sister's room that was two doors down. Echo recognized David's voice and she barged in, she froze at the sight of her husband and her sister in bed together.
That marked the end of alot of things.
She'd punched her sister unconscious.
Her parents tried to defend Sophia's actions.
David tried to beg for forgiveness.
In the end she cut her ties, divorced her husband and disowned her family. Now she became Echo Donovan, who had no relation to the Marlease family or David Knoxin. From here on out Echo concentrated her efforts on her career.
Fast forward to the current, Commander Echo Donovan has been assigned as the communications specialist aboard the Esteem, a crete class ship. Under the command of Admiral Tigh Vangard. Unfortunately she arrives two weeks later than she was supposed to because the ship she was assigned to before her orders changed encountered a party of reavers on the flight back to Osiris.
Echo isn't very talkative when it comes to small talk, she gets straight to the point and doesn't usually initiate a conversation unless it's a necessity.Physical description:
There aren't but a few people in her life she considers a friend and they're kept at arms length as it's hard for her to open up to anyone, Echo tends to be a loner.
Her free-time is mostly spent in her room with a book or her computer; she's kept up her hacker skills over the years, always small-time - it's still a thrill. She's a technical geek to the core, she enjoys tinkering with things. Though at times she does enjoy a drink..or five - this almost always takes place in her room because she fears the effects of the alcohol would have on her interaction between her and others
Her fighting skills are mediocre, both hand-to-hand and gunfire so she has no additional weaponry other than what's been officially issued to her.
She does speak 6 languages and can read/write in 3 (other than English and Mandarin Chinese); speaking are as follows - French, Latin, Russian, Czech and Spanish. written are as follows - Latin, Russian, and French
Echo is a Buddhist; she keeps a small personal worship table in her room.
She has a secret fear of browncoats, she fears being taken prisoner again. Sometimes it plagues her in nightmares.
Echo has no scars; she does have two tattoos - one on each of her inner wrists, one is a very detailed Dharmachakra and the other is an infinity symbol in front of a few cherry blossom flowersAspirations:
She has 3 piercings in her earlobe and 1 in her cartilage in each ear - most of the time they are all very small studs so they can be worn while she's on duty.
