Katherine should have expected being left on Persephone when she heard that's where the ship was headed. She always seemed to end up wandering around the docks for days before she found another ship to take her away. She was getting tired of this planet, and hoped next time she opted to get off, she'd be elsewhere, probably somewhere nice and green, full of happy people.
No, she didn't see that happening any time soon.
For now, Katherine was wandering around, taking in the sights she thought she'd never get tired of. Some were selling things, some were bargaining to get onto ships, and others were sitting off to the side sleeping. Katherine loved watching people, as long as they didn't come up to her and try to start a long conversation. All she needed to know was where a ship was going, who the captain was (not that she had any preference, as she didn't know many), and how long she'd be flying. The longer the better; she liked getting to know people once she knew she'd be around them for a while. She also hoped someone had heard something of her brother, but that was a hope that was dying, as no one seemed to even recognize his name. A little closure was all she needed, know if he was alive or not. She wouldn't allow herself to see her parents again without knowing about her brother first.
Many large ships caught her eye. She usually walked past those; they never seemed welcoming to Katherine. She liked smaller ones, with smaller crews; she preferred a small family-like crew over a larger one where they couldn't trust each other. As a rule, she always passed on trips in large ships, no matter the destinations.
She sighed and started humming to herself. People seemed to be leaving her alone enough, but she wished someone would approach her for a spot on their ship. She hated going up to people who looked busy, never sure if they were set or not. Maybe that was a reason she was always stuck on a planet for four or five days; she was too shy to go and introduce herself, tell them that she claimed she was the best cook in the 'verse, and hopefully get around to traveling some more. She was happiest when she was in space, she had discovered that the night she left home. Being on the ground made her feel tied down.
As she walked, she noticed someone was looking around at people walking by, and Katherine decided to be brave and go up for questions. She didn't want to be wandering the docks any long.
"You look lonely,"She said with a smile. "Lookin' for someone to join you? I make some mighty fine meals." Her smile widened as she said that, knowing it could be taken one of two ways; she'd be furthered questioned, maybe even accepted right off the bat, or she'd be laughed at and turned away. She had gotten both plenty of times in the past year and a half.
