Let me toss out some ideas and you let me know if you want in on one!
The Auction
A highly publicized auction taking place on [insert planet here] is attended by The Ringmaster and [insert your character]. The items for sale have historical significance, were owned by famous figures, and/or possess rare qualities. The auction starts off civil, but is disrupted by a band of thieves. The items for sale are suddenly unprotected in the chaos and it's a race to grab all you can in a manner of seconds.
The Hunt
[Your character] is after Franz Mazer, a man needed alive by the person who hired you (this could be altered). The Ringmaster is also after Mazer, a once astounding performer, in hopes of recruiting him for the Carnivale Exotica. Mazer doesn't want to negotiate with either. Mayhem and hijinks ensue.
The Abduction
The Carnivale Exotica lands on [insert planet here] to do two week's worth of shows. A few days into the schedule, a star performer is abducted. The Ringmaster sets out to retrieve the performer. Depending on your character's job/skills, we'll have to figure out together how you would be involved.
