The new captain was not what she had been expecting. According to Sidney, he had gotten hurt badly on a job and was recovering. That was why he had been absent from the ship and Sidney had been in charge. It was just another change she would take in stride. He was the real captain and Meilin was sure she would understand why once she got to know him.
His return to the ship had definitely left an impression. He looked every bit the Independent war hero, but certainly older than she had imagined. It could have been the combination of a beard and the cane.
She heard footsteps coming into the kitchen, but she didn't pay them mind right away. She was filling a kettle with water to heat for tea. Meilin liked having the hot water handy when she could. A good cup of tea was something she always enjoyed, and having hot water on hand could be all sorts of useful.
"I'm afraid I don't have any snacks to put out at the moment. You boys already polished off all the leftovers. Tea will be ready in a moment though." She called over her shoulder to the visitor as she reached for one of the tins of tea leaves she kept on the top shelf. Not the smartest place to put them.

James' dramatic re entrance had introduced him to his new crew members and their first impression would count. In the excitement of his return he hadn't had a chance to properly aquatint himself with the new additions. He headed up to the Galley to meet the cook he had caught her name in the cargo bay but in all honesty forgot it already. He entered the Galley as the cook said something "That's alright I'm just after a glass of water" he told her.

"Oh!" Meilin recognized the voice because it wasn't actually familiar to her yet. "Hello, Cap'n." She turned around quickly and smiled at him. It was only military that saluted each other, right? She put the tea tins down on the counter and found a clean glass to fill with water. "Here ya go." She offered it to him from across the counter. "Anything else you're needin'? I'm Meilin, by the way." She wasn't sure if he had caught her name earlier.
