The Truxtun may seem like a small ship but she is much larger than just about anything else on the 'Verse. That means she has a large crew and the crew positions aren't exactly traditional. Below is an extensive list of the ship positions, which are available, and what the suggested character ranks are for those positions.
Crewlist:
Commanding Officer/Captain (CO) – The CO is the representative of Alliance authority of the ship. He is responsible for oversight in all areas of the ship and decides all courses of action.
Current CO: Commander Michael Harper
Executive Officer/First Officer (XO) – The XO assists the CO with many of the more mundane tasks of leadership. He is responsible for direct supervision of the ship, especially the Bridge, and handles most administrative functions such as payroll, requisitions requests, personnel, etc.
Current XO: This position should be held by a Lieutenant or Lieutenant Commander.*
*This is the accepted range but the suggested rank within that range is italicized. Positions with multiple holders (e.g. Marines) should have individuals of varying ranks thus none are specifically suggested.
Bridge Crew
The ship can technically be flown by one person but it performs best with all four positions crewed. Therefore, most duties can be preformed from each station but when all four are working in unison they are split up and assigned their separate tasks. I.e. if only the co-pilot is on duty he can maneuver the ship, open communications, and fire weapons even if none of those areas would be his responsibility in a fully crewed scenario.
Flight Officer/Pilot – The pilot’s primary focus is the ship’s propulsion system.
Current Flight Officer: This position should be held by a Chief Petty Officer, Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade, or Lieutenant.
Assistant Flight Officer/Co-pilot – The co-pilot assists the pilot in his duties when required. Generally while the pilot is focused on the short term, the co-pilot should be focusing on long term issues like plotting an escape or pursuit jump, watching the status of ship systems, etc.
Current Assistant Flight Officer: This position should be held by a Petty Officer 1st Class, Chief Petty Officer, Ensign, or Lieutenant Junior Grade.
Operations/Communications Officer - This officer handles most intelligence gathering roles. He controls ship communications as well as monitoring enemy comms. He also monitors and tracks sensor readings.
Current Operations Officer: Lieutenant Junior Grade Carlisle Loosani
Tactical/Weapons Officer – This crew member coordinates all loading, targeting, and firing of the ship’s weapons.
Current Tactical Officer: This position should be held by a Chief Petty Officer, Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade, or Lieutenant.
Weapons Crew
Bosun/Boatswain – The Bosun is in charge of the Launch Bays and the gunners although in the heat of combat he is working right along with them rather than supervising. He is fifth in command of the ship.
Current Bosun: This position should be held by a Lieutenant Junior Grade or Lieutenant.
Senior Gunner (‘s Mate)- The Bosun can only be in one bay at a time so during combat actions this man commands the other Launch Bay.
Current Senior Gunner: This position should be held by a Petty Officer 1st Class or Chief Petty Officer.
Gunners (‘s Mate) – The gunners are simply responsible for preparing and loading missiles to be fired. In their off duty hours, they drill constantly to improve their speed and maintain their equipment so it never fails. Any other free time is spent lending aide to other positions on the ship, particularly engineering or marines.
Current Gunners: This position should be held by a Crewman, Petty Officer 3rd Class, Petty Officer 2nd Class, or Petty Officer 1st Class. (There are four Gunners on board.)
Dropship Pilots – These men maintain their ships and then pilot them into hell whether that means uses as a gunship or as a transport. This is a whole lot different than piloting the larger patrol boat and might even involve occasionally fighting on foot.
Current Pilots: Lieutenant Emmett Tanner
This position should be held by a Warrant Officer, Ensign, or Lieutenant JG. (There are two Dropship Pilots on board.)
Engineering Crew
Chief Engineer – The chief is third in command of the boat and leads his crew to make sure that it keeps flying. The only area outside his responsibility is the missile tubes and the dropships but he and his men may still intervene to repair those sections if required.
Current Chief Engineer: This position should be held by a Lieutenant, or Lieutenant Commander.
Engineers – The chief is assisted by four assistant engineers who are ranked in order (first, second, third, and fourth) according to seniority, skill, and chain of command in the engine room.
Current Engineers: This position should be held by a Petty Officer 3rd Class, Petty Officer 2nd Class, Petty Officer 1st Class, or Chief Petty Officer. – Preferably one of each rank which would determine their ranking in the Engineer hierarchy. (There are four engineers on board.)
Support Crew
Ship Doctor – The doctor handles all needs from bullet holes to annual check-ups. The nature of the Alliance ship also means that often he might be loaned out to help the crew of other ships or settlements planetside.
Current Doctor: This position should be held by a Lieutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant, or Lieutenant Commander.
Steward – He is the logistics officer of the ship. He maintains the ship’s inventory of food, weaponry, equipment, clothing, etc. and sends requisitions through the XO when needed. When not behind his desk or counting bullets he is also the ship’s cook and custodian.
Current Steward: This position should be held by a Petty Officer Second Class, Petty Officer First Class, or Chief Petty Officer.
Marine Crew
Watch Officer (WO) – The Watch Officer is in charge of ship security. That includes commanding the marines, fire fighting duties, overseeing the Operations Officer (navigational, communications, etc. threats), partially overseeing the support functions of the doctor and steward, and to an extent ensuring all other departments are operating safely. He is fourth in command of the vessel and often will be the commanding officer of any marine deployment off the ship. He has one of the three deck watches along with the CO and XO.
Current WO: Lieutenant Miria Harken
Master-at-Arms – The enlisted commander of the marine detachment. He reports to the Watch Officer and is responsible for directly supervising the marines. When the Watch Officer is not directly leading them, he commands the marines in combat operations.
Current Master-at-Arms: Gunnery Sergeant Dante Adams
Marine – The grunts used for ship security, boarding operations, and also planetside operations. The job can get pretty interesting when there is serious action but when stuck aboard ship it can get pretty dull. Thus many marines spend their free time helping in all areas except the Bridge. They assist the dropship pilots, torpedo crews, engineers, doctor, and steward in their jobs just like those crew members would pick up a rifle and fight beside the marines if they were ever boarded.
Current Marines: This position should be held by a Private First Class, Lance Corporal, Corporal, Sergeant, Staff Sergeant, or Gunnery Sergeant. (There are approximately sixteen marines on board.)
