PT 143 "Truxtun"
The Truxtun is the spiritual descendant of a dozen warships bearing the same name. These ships are named after Commodore Thomas Truxtun, an American naval Officer of the 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a master of small engagements serving as a privateer captain in the American Revolution and then as a leading commander in the young nation's fleet after the war. During his career he never suffered a single defeat despite frequent engagements with a superior naval opponent.
The most recent incarnation of the Truxtun was laid down in February 2512 at the Beaumonde Shipyards, its immediate predecessor having been damaged beyond repair in the war. In November of 2513 the ship had it's shakedown and was temporarily placed in reserve before being assigned to privateer duties under Lieutenant Harper in 2514. The ship was staffed with a handful of young Alliance officers and then filled out with a civilian complement. Every single one of them would have been unfit for service on a regular Alliance vessel thanks to their histories. Some were criminals, one was even dishonorably discharged from Alliance service earlier, and the rest were all former Browncoats, enemies of the Alliance only three years earlier.
Despite the ragtag assortment of unlikely allies, the Truxton performed well for several years. However in 2517 (roughly coinciding with the signal) it was decided to discontinue the privateering operation or at least to get rid of the non-Alliance personnel. The latter option was eventually chosen. The Truxtun went into drydock for a refitting and the majority of the crew was replaced.
Although the Truxtun is now fully an Alliance vessel, it retains much of the same character and mission that it held previously. This is likely more thanks to the ship's commander than to official orders. With the conversion to full Alliance, the Truxtun is a little officer heavy compared to what she had been but that change is merely titular. It is still the same ship with the same positions and the same job to do.
Recent History
February 2523 - Truxtun is being resupplied and receiving new crew members at Osiris.
