I was wondering where I might find a place like this on the forums

I would like to share any of my Firefly/Serenity related works to the forum. Feel free to comment in the same thread as well!

Each post will have its own little description and posted artwork.

For me, artwork is always a process.

In searching the interwebs, I found the deckplans for a Shellback-class mid-bulk transport.

It is from these plans, I then created my own unique ship. The ship I created was then in turn, written into my short stories about a crew in the Firefly/Serenity universe.

If you noticed from my last post, the second image had a side view of the Shellback-class ship.

Extracting that part and using as a template, I did some photoshop magic to create my ship:



This ship is obviously inspired by the Firefly-class ship Serenity. This Shellback-class transport is supposed to have turtle-like qualities. Conceptually, it would be slightly bigger than a firefly. Some elements, like the engine, are consistent between the two, but for the Shellback, one can see that it has double the amount of pods that the Firefly has. So implicitly, it's bigger.

I named it Destiny. I tried to mimic the Serenity logo as well.

If you guys enjoy sci-fi, you'll probably catch the fact that naming a ship Destiny is not an original idea (watch Stargate: Universe and you'll see what I mean )

After naming the ship I worked on separate artwork to try and mimc the Serenity logo.

After making all this concept art I wanted to begin writing a story, applying characters into this ship.

For fun, I took some of my characters and made a wanted posted.

I initially looked at some old-western wanted posters, and I applied that style through to the Firefly/Serenity universe.



Chris Winters (later renamed Jack Winters) was the firstmate in my story.

Amelia Ellis (later renamed Kate Ellis) was the captain.

Jamie Sawyer was the Jayne-type roll as the gunner/security. Jamie is a sexually ambiguous name, and it was my attempt to bring out the similar playfulness the Serenity crew had with Jayne's name. In the story everyone refers to him as Sawyer, but when they learned his first name, they teased him about it.

Daniel Edmund (Later renamed Niel Edmunds) was the respectable doctor from the core and crew-member aboard Destiny.

These were some of the characters that Casey (my current character on the forums) interacted with.

At this point I just kept making more and more art stuff.

I wanted to make some sort of Cortex, since it always was mentioned in the series/movie. However, I lacked my own references since they never actually showed the Cortex in the tv show. (Or if they did, then I just sorely missed it.)

Either way, this was something I imagined and made from scratch.
