Attention all citizens! The Alliance needs brave men and women to answer the call and serve.
PT 143 (AKA Truxtun) is an Alliance Patrol Boat. Its capabilities vary greatly from the hulking Alliance cruisers. She is faster, much more agile, and a smaller target both to hit and to see. The Truxtun can easily land planet-side or board other vessels in space. She is fully equipped to operate alone and remain self-sufficient. The ship is naturally limited by her size which means less weapons, less power, less armor, and less crew than a typical Alliance ship. Therefore while there is nothing that can really threaten a cruiser, the Truxtun is vulnerable if it is swarmed by numerous opponents, no matter how small and lightly armed they may be.
The ship's mission is to do all that a capital ship can't. Truxtun runs typical law enforcement missions against smuggling operations. It is available for quick response to ships in need or even planetary installations that could use the timely arrival of a squad of marines. The Truxtun can also run silent in an attempt to sneak or simply lurk in a system. The arrival of a capital ship would cause criminals to scatter immediately but the smaller craft can often get in close and respond before anyone knows they're there. Pirates, slavers, and the like are also more likely to try to fight off a patrol boat than to take on a capital ship. So even without the element of surprise the Truxtun can often accomplish more than simply shooing them away.
The environment of the ship is very much like a submarine (or patrol boat). The crew is small as is the ship. Military protocol still exists but it is for the most part less formal. Crew members are also given a lot more liberty in certain areas such as a basic dress code rather than a uniform, and the allowance of living space personalization rather than spartan accommodations. Several crew members have multiple roles on board (e.g. dropship pilot and marine) to make up for the limited crew. The ship's captain is not actually a captain in rank. Etc.
The Truxtun is an aggressive ship that will seek more action than something like the Esteem. That means there will be Good Samaritan missions to help people in need, policing missions to interdict smuggling and the like, and all out battles with pirates, slavers, and even reavers.
She needs good men and women to crew her and there are plenty of opportunities for both gung-ho Alliance veterans who live and breathe for the service and also the brawler types that want to do some good but also want to punch someone in the face while doing it. The ship and her captain's histories include working with Browncoats so no past is too awful to be accepted here.
A full list of open crew positions can be found here.
