[[February 12th, 2523. 0700 local ship time.]]
[This encounter run by Lars]
Lieutenant Harold Vincent stood on the bridge of his new command, and smiled to himself. He had worked hard to get here, and now that he had arrived, he felt a calm of relaxation sweep over him. He could rest, at least for now. His eyes narrowed slightly, as he thought over the last couple of days, and he replayed certain events in his head. There had been the call, notifying him of his new assignment, putting him in charge of a ship. Then there had been the odd meeting with the crew, which was mafe more uncomfortable by the impromptu arrival of new orders. Transport sealed envelopes, all hush hush. He didn't really like it, but orders are orders. And so they had set out.
He had tried not to wonder about things too much, however, when the workmen had arrived, and fitted the ship out with some new fangled beacons and the like. And he mereley sighed when they had revamped the computers, adding new protective measures. He knew from experience that they were just doing what they were told, so asking why would be pointless. Vincent shook his head and returned to the present.
"Helmsman!" He barked, his heavy English accent holding great authority. "Plot the rest of our course, and prepare to get underway." He picked up the comm, and hailed one of the other nearby alliance ships. "High Born, this is Ranger. Requesting permission to proceed with the operation, over." The comm hissed static as he released the key, and he waited for the response.
"High Born to Ranger, you are cleared for departure from the fleet. God Speed." The comm officer aboard the Alliance Cruiser, named High Born, said. "High Born out."
Vincent smiled, and then replaced the comm. "Helmsman, proceed with the course." He felt a true jolt of childish excitement as the ship turned and sped off into the black. This was what he had always dreamed of. Vincent turned and sharply saluted the Officer of the Deck. "Mr. Saiga, you have the ship." He said, and headed to his office to relax.
