[OOC: I'm just gonna use this whenever I feel creative. It's Ben only but I think it might be nice to keep a log for the Orlando, so that others can see and get some insight on how Ben thinks about his crewmembers, and all that is happening on the Orlando. If you have questions or want to see something changed, PM me.]
Orlando log: Persephone, November 19th, 2520. 11:33 pm.
Went looking for a crew. Sat down for a while in O'Hanrahan's Pub, a place I've come to like during my stay on Persephone. It wasn't too long before I saw two familiar faces: it were my old friends Daniel Stoot and Ryan Hannigan. Boy, was I glad to see those guys. Talked to them for a while, apparently they were the ones that dragged me to safety on Hera and they have their own ship as well. I owe those guys my life, and I will be forever indebted to them. I therefor offered them my help whenever they needed it, and they offered theirs back. They're still the good men I remembered. Danny's still the joyous, fun loving fellow he always was, and Ryan... well I'm worried about Ryan. He seemed out of it, and it looked like he had lost an awful lot of weight and like he had shortage of sleep as well. I'm afraid the war has gotten to him.
It didn't take too long before we were joined by another one of our former brothers in arms: George West. I didn't recognize George at first, but I then remembered him as one of the medics I served with during the war. George said he was the one who patched me up on Hera, and Danny confirmed it. George said he was looking for work after his own practice was seized by the bank, so in gratitude I offered him a job. He took it without hesitation. Just the way I remember him. Always putting himself on the line for others, helping them without hesitation. George is a good man, it's good to have him around.
The next in line was a young woman called Jaclyn Ruishu. Claimed to be a real sharpshooter, and considering the amount of weapons she was packing and her own arsenal she brought on board, how could I not believe her? Whether or not she knows how to use them remains to be seen, but I'm confident that she will live up to my expectations. Offered her a position as a first mate aboard the Orlando and she took it.
After I took Jaclyn aboard, another new face appeared. This time it was that of another young woman called Roxanne Knightly. She sat down claiming she was the pilot I needed. I can appreciate boldness, and I was in dire need of a pilot so I hired her. I must say, she talks the talk, but she also walks the walk. She knows the ship through and through and I haven't regretted hiring her for a second. She did undermine my authority when we took Kyrin Atworth (more about her below) aboard, but I'm certain that was a mistake she won't repeat. All by all Roxanne's fun to be around with as well, and she'll make a great addition to the crew.
After waiting for a little while longer an even younger girl appeared. Lily Zhang, a Persephonian local and a mechanic. She came looking for a job as well, and I must say: first I had my doubts about hiring her, not because I doubted her abilities, but because of her age. She's only 18 years old and at first I thought she was a little young to take her aboard. But then again, who was I to deny her a job and this girl's survival in the 'Verse? I set aside my problem with her age and took her aboard. And I must say, I'm glad I didn't let my conscience get in the way of things. Lily's a great mechanic, she knows engines like no other and her cheerful attitude toward the rest of the crew really boosts the moral aboard the Orlando.
I know had a full crew, and the Orlando was ready to fly. Yet, I decided to stick around to see if maybe I could get a few gunhands to tag along. We sure could've used one or two for the job we're about to pull on St. Alban's. But instead of finding gunhands I found someone I'd rather left unfound. One of the Alliance assassins that helped thin out our ranks during the war came in, as if it was nothing. And this wasn't just any assassin. This was the one I fought barehanded with when mortars were raining all around us. He got lucky back then when that mortar knocked me out. I confronted him again, but the coward tried reasoning with me, claiming he worked for Danny and Ryan, and even offered me to buy me a drink! Of course I wouldn't have any of it, so when I wanted to disarm him, the coward pulled out a thermal detonator and made his escape. But I'll find him again. I'll find him, and make him pay for what he did. And I'll pay Danny and Ryan good money, I'm certain they will understand.
Met up with Murdo Dunstan later in the evening. Despite the fact he's out of his mind, he's agreed to buy the weapons after we steal them, so we don't need to worry about that anymore.
Went back to the Orlando afterward, found my crew busy preparing for take-off, but when George was unloading the dermal mender, a suspicious character appeared. His name is Robert Borden. Apparently he recognized me as being "Bulletproof" Ben Barrow, but I denied him that. Most people who recognize me are either Independent veterans, people I introduced myself to, and Alliance operatives. And this guy was neither an Independent war veteran nor did I introduce myself to him. No, this guy had Alliance written all over his face. Luckily, after the war was over, the Alliance claimed to have captured me and executed me, so I can play that card whenever I don't feel like confirming people my name. But something tells me I haven't seen the last of Robert Borden. I have to keep looking out for a ship called 'The Horizon', and also to ask George about this suspicious 'friend' of his. Luckily, Borden took my excuse and he took his leave.
Just as I was about to close the cargobay doors for take-off, a young girl appeared. She introduced herself as a Companion called Kyrin Atworth. I don't like Companions, they're Alliance filth for all I'm concerned. Yet, this girl, with the help of my pilot Roxanne, managed to get me so far to rent out one of my shuttle's to her. I told her it came with strict conditions and that she has to work for her food, just like everyone else aboard the boat. Frankly I'm just waiting for her to slip up so I've got an excuse to kick her off, but she's being careful. She seems to get along well with Roxanne though, gotta ask Roxanne to keep an eye out on her. If this crew gets endangered because of Kyrin, I'll have no problem disposing of her most harshly. Maybe we could even ransom her back to the guild on Sihnon if she proves to be as unreliable as she looks. But when push comes to shove, and she betrays me and the crew, I'll have no problem to kill her. She wouldn't be the first dead Companion I've ever seen.
We took off right after we Kyrin was taken aboard. We're on our way now to St. Alban's. Time to see how this crew functions together on a job.
