Roxanne was relaxing in the cockpit with one her journal open in her lap and a Bible for after. She was exceptionally devoted, but from time to time, Roxanne would turn to God for guidance. This was that particular time where her journal and her Bible came in handy. They had just dropped off the guns to Minerva so they were on their way to Greenleaf. All of Nathaniel’s things were in her trunk in the cargo bay. Even ones she wanted to keep like pictures, a couple books of his she had written some inscriptions in and notes written back and forth. But she wanted to show her family those things. They needed the closer to know he had been happy and that Roxanne had loved him with everything she had. He had been her only great love aside from her first love, which was different for her then most. Roxanne had wanted to build a life with him. He was different from anyone else she had known…
This afternoon her journal heard her thoughts about seeing his parents for only the second time in her life; about her feelings of letting go; about everything going on with her family and Nathaniel’s. Was she ready to date? Was she ready to open her heart up again? Or should she go back to her old ways of simply dating without getting attached in any way? All these questions raged.
Her Bible gave her a different guidance after she set aside her journal and checked a few things. It was helping get over the little feign of depression she had just suffered and was there to help guide her for what she must do in letting Nathaniel go fully. It didn’t hurt. Not anymore. There was a small ache in her heart from time to time when certain memories came to her mind; but all and all, she was happy again. Roxanne didn’t blame her father anymore and was really trying. But there was still the bitter way they had left things which made it especially hard. It was going to be hard for her father to look at or talk to her the same anymore. He still resented her leaving like she did. But she wanted to go out on her own and was loving the freedom.
Her head bowed in a prayer. Her lips moved as muted words came out. This was a rare thing for Roxanne to turn to God like this. But today was the special occasion. As soon as she finished her prayer, she immediately felt better and calm. Her right hand found both the Bible and her journal. Her seat turned to set them on a shelf behind her out of the way. They were about 2 and a half to 3 hours from Greenleaf. She would depart from the crew for a couple or few hours to spend with Nathaniel’s family. If she stayed more then three hours, she would send a wave over to Ben or someone in the crew to let them know. His family was meeting her up at the docks and she’d go from there.
Music. Roxanne needed music.
There was a radio she had which she could play music files on. She looked through the ones she had with her in the cockpit and chose an instrumental mix she had. There was some upbeat and some mellow ones mixed ins he knew which would be fine for her. Roxanne attached the file drive where it belonged and let the rest go from there. Drums, winds and guitars filled the air as she relaxed back in her seat and gazed out of the stars before her. She found herself with a smile on her face as she hummed along aimlessly.

Ben wandered aimlessly through his own ship. Everything was as it should be at the moment and there wasn't a gorram thing to do until they reached Greenleaf.
At times like these, Ben had the tendency to think back about times past. When he wasn't the captain of a ship yet, and when he had yet to fight in the war and become the infamous "Bulletproof" Ben Barrow.
He thought about the times when he was still a nobody to most, but a somebody for the people he loved and cared about. When he robbed and stole from the rich just so he could keep his friends fed. Just to take care of them was all he ever really wanted to do.
But he had failed them. All of them. He led them straight into their own downfall, and now his friends were either missing or still imprisoned. The males from his group had escaped prison with him, fought in the war with him, but after the Battle of Serenity Valley they had gone missing. And the females... they were imprisoned for 18 years already.
Ben paused for a second, and leaned both hands against the wall. He lead his head down and thought about those he had left behind.
After a while Ben started hearing music, and followed it back to its source. It came from the cockpit, where he found Roxanne relaxing, just shooting the breeze.
He looked out the windows outside, but then his eyes found what looked to be an improvised bookshelf. He walked over to see what kind of books Roxanne was keeping on the shelf. One had nothing imprinted on the cover, but the other had a cross imprinted on it. Ben grabbed it and read the inscription on it: "Holy Bible."
Ben disapprovingly shook his head. He knew at least one of his crew would carry a bible, but he hoped they'd at least keep it in their bunk instead of out in the open like this.
With an annoyed grunt Ben threw the bible back on the shelf. That's what he got for not telling his crew to keep their religion in their bunks.
He then stood behind Roxanne's pilotseat, arms crossed.
Ben Barrow had lost his faith a long time ago.

Roxanne’s eyes grazed upon the starry sky. There was a general calm amongst herself. Her thoughts traveled to her brother. His birthday was coming up in a few days. It was probably time to try to send a wave out to him. Her body turned just slightly toward the screen. The light fingertips grazed over the various letters and numbers to get a hold of her family. It wasn’t connecting, which meant they weren’t close at this time. Maybe Roxanne would simply make him a special capture-updating him on things and showing him around the ship she was living on now.
She let her seat lean backwards as her eyes found the ceiling. She wasn’t very tired at the moment, so she’d probably be up for a bit. Her thoughts now drifted from her family to George. Apparently he'd be leaving when they reached Greenleaf. It was a surprise, considering they had really bonded. It was frustrating to her because she didn't have many people close to her around anymore. Roxanne wasn't even close with her own family anymore. Now she's probably have to simply start at square one with the entire crew. With a sigh, her foot turned the seat and her body about as she tapped to the music with her fingertips. Her foot slipped as she spun around until she hit a rather solid but soft object.
The captain, Ben.
“Oh!” Roxanne grabbed a hold of the nearest panel, attempting to avoid buttons. His figure was rather stiff as he stood there. “Hello Ben. Why so cross?” A soft smile played across her lips. Now that some of the crew knew about why she could be so messed up, she was a little more relaxed around everyone. There hadn’t been a bad day since she talked to the doctor about that unpleasant bit of her past.

Ben could understand that Roxanne needed some way of comforting herself with the difficult times that lay ahead of her on Greenleaf, but he didn't like the fact that she kept a bible in the cockpit either. In a way, he took it as a personal offense although he wasn't going to let Roxanne know that.
"Look Roxanne," Ben said. "I can understand it that you seek solace for the difficult times you have coming for you. However, I'd appreciate it if you'd keep attributes of worship such as that work of fiction over there in the privacy of your own bunk. There might be people aboard this boat who'd take offense to such things being in plain sight."
Ben figured he was clear enough. He also figured his request was reasonable enough. He didn't want anything aboard his ship that reminded him of his lost faith.

Roxanne raised her brows in confusion. She understood that there wer people without faith. But Ben was assuming things very quickly by the placement of one item. Roxanne hardly, if ever, kept personal items in the pit. The most were a picture of her family, one of Nathaniel and hopefully, eventually, one of the crew.
She rolled her eyes slightly before she rubbed her temples with her fingertips. ”First off, I only had it in here for this moment cuase I thought y’all were busy. Second, the last time I opened the Bible was when Nathaniel died. So excuse me if I needed “that work of fiction” just to calm me.” Roxanne picked up her Bible and simply held it by her hip. ”Please, don’t jump to conclusions about where I place my personal items. Just because it’s not in my bunk this present moment doesn’t mean I always keep in public places.”
Roxanne was very defensive at times. This was a time that called for it. She hated it when people jumped to a conclusion or assumed something. That’s exactly what she found Captain Burrows to be doing. She set the Bible down near the console. It wasn’t so much out like Ben had seen it. Now she was back in her frustrated mood thanks to this. Roxanne collapsed backwards in her chair yet again as she exhaled outwards. ”Even if you have a problem with my Bible, don’t jump down my throat like that. Simply talking to people about stuff like this beforehand works very well in case you didn’t know. Clears things up much easier then being rude and accusatory about it. Also, if you don’t believe, then don’t judge people who do.”

Ben's face straightened. He gave Roxanne an ice cold look, like the one he used to have during the war when he had just killed purplebellies. He believed that his request was reasonable, and that Roxanne had no reason to act that way. Therefor, he wasn't going to take it.
"Right." Ben said. "Mourning your lost lover or not, if you're gonna keep using that sort of tongue against me, you're gonna find it out of your mouth and on the floor. I merely made a reasonable request, and I expect you to honor it."
Ben didn't like acting like a strict captain, but now was the time for it. He couldn't take one of them being insubordinate like that. To him, there was nothing he said or done to could have deserved it.
"Now you take any religious relics you might have laying around and you keep them in your bunk or under your shirt." Ben said. "If I find any of them on my ship where they're not supposed to be, I'll vent them out in the black myself."

Roxanne shook her head. He was blowing this out of proportion a lot. But she didn’t feel like fighting at this moment. She shook her head and threw some papers over her Bible. ”Fine. Whatever.” Haven rested one of her feet on the edge of the counsel and spun her chair slightly. ”Just so you know, you may want to tell others so that don’t have to deal with your unfortunate side like I have.”
With her hand she rubbed at her left arm before she gazed out at the black and then looked back at Ben. She wasn’t exactly sure what else she could say to him. There was something about his hard look she couldn’t understand-nor wanted to. ”Ben-do you think my brother can come around for a couple weeks or a month?” It was something she had juggled in her mind but only was just sort of finalized by him. ”He’ll pay fare to ride and whatnot. Just-I didn’t leave my father’s on good terms with everyone and waves aren’t doing it.”
Roxanne held her breath in anticipation. Probably not the best time to spring it on him, but it was fresh on her mind and couldn’t put it off much longer. He was going to waiting on Greenleaf for an answer.

Ben was already not in the best of moods, but all this bickering just made it worse. After they made the deal with Minerva he found out that Danny and Ryan had both gone missing and were presumed dead. Then all of a sudden George came to him, telling him he wanted to get off on the next stop. So that were already three friends Ben had found and lost in a very short amount of time.
He had always kept his hopes up to finding his missing friends from his group on Londinium, and one day liberating those that were still imprisoned. But now he was losing hope. Now that George was leaving, there were only three people left on the crew. Ben hoped they would get some new blood on Greenleaf or Beaumonde, or all the things he had planned would definately be out of the question, and they'd just be hauling cargo like any other normal transport ship out there, missing out on the big bucks. And to Ben, missing out on repaying the Alliance.
Roxanne said something about his 'unfortunate' side. She had no idea. Girl like that who grew up under her parents wing in the safety of a ship. Ben had known more hardships in his life than she ever would. Living years in an abandoned building in the restricted zone of Londinium enduring the harsh winters, being tortured in prison, fighting hard in a war that was eventually lost because the Independent leaders didn't dare to take a chance, knowing that all those deaths were in vain...
And yet she still had the guts to ask him for a favor. After all that. Simply because she overreacted to him making one simple request. Although an extra man would be welcome aboard the ship, Ben wasn't just going to give it to Roxanne. He could be a harsh and cold man when he was angered.
"Right now you're lucky we're still on course for Greenleaf." Ben answered Roxanne. "As for your brother, I'll think about it, but don't get your hopes up."
Ben figured a cigarette would taste good right about now, so he took the pack from his coat and lit one up. He had taught himself how to smoke during the cold winter of 2501, if only to create an illusion it would keep him warm. And unfortunately he had continued to do so.
Ben took a look out the into the Black as he blew out the smoke. Right now, all he wanted was to relax.

Her head hurt at the moment. This was not how she wanted things to travel out. How was she supposed to know that he didn’t like religion? Roxanne drew breaths in and out rhythmically. Roxanne didn’t handle anger or big confrontations very well. Especially with her new captain.
Roxanne nodded. She hadn’t want to bring it up, but she didn’t have much choice. They would be at Greenleaf soon and she hadn’t expected to get talked to about her Bible. Today was the just so messed up. George was leaving so now they’d be out a medic as well. ”Mkay. I know it wasn’t exactly the best time, but we’ll be landing soon so…” A shrug lifted and made her shoulders fall in a swift motion.
She could feel the tension in the room. Roxanne checked the monitors. There was some space trash somewhere to their left. She watched that to make sure it wasn’t coming fast enough to hit them. She’d keep a close eye on that. ”So any plans on George leaving? Or we just going to take it how it comes?” Her elbow rested on the console as she let a small smile rest on her face.

Ben took another pull from his cigarette. What was she expecting to do with George? Tie him up so he couldn't leave? Ben would have preferred it if his old friend would stay but then again Ben had an idea why George was leaving.
It was of course nice to have an old friend with his crew, but it had a downside as well. Having George brought up good memories, but made bad memories surface as well. The kind that were best left forgotten, buried on the battlefields the both of them had been on. The Alliance had committed warcrimes during the war, but the Independents hadn't exactly been saints either. Ben and George had been ordered to do things, stuff that wouldn't be written down in the war-reports.
Ben figured it was best for George to leave. They'd still be friends, but from a distance of course. Ben noticed that George had been suffering from the same memories. Only Ben was a might stronger when it came to bad memories.
"Any plans?" Ben asked. "I suppose a handshake and a pat on the back. Don't know what else I could do. If the doc wants off, he gets off. Simple as that."

”What I meant was you found anything about medics looking for work or going to inquire when were on Greenleaf or Beaumonde. There’s only so far we can go without a medic.” Roxanne was only trying to be helpful but it wasn’t working. She grabbed her journal and Bible, using the writing one to cover the other before putting it on one of the lower shelves so she wouldn’t be snapped at again.
As she tilted her head from side to side, it cracked. It was an old habit. As she settled back she got a wave from a nearby ship. She checked it out and found it was just her families ship. Her brother was probably going to be dropped off. Roxanne looked over at Ben before she continued to patch Alec through. After a moment she smiled at the sight of her brother.
” Nee hao brother. What brings this wave?”
Alec smiled back at his sister before replying ”Just wanted to let you know what father said about me leaving the ship. Something along the lines of it being fei hua and apparently I am a jung chi duh go-se dway.” Alec chuckled as if it was amusing to him. Roxanne did not find it so and started in on him in Cantonese before she went on to say, ”Just stay there! It’s better to make father happy then to upset him anymore. Don’t go causing your own rift because of me.” But Alec assured her that now it was his time to leave the home ship and explore himself. ”Fine. Just as long as you don’t begin to hate them or the other way around.”
Roxanne glanced up at her captain before looking back at Alec. She rested her chin in front of the panel before she looked around at the console. ”Is there another reason for this wave. Because I’m busy.”
Nee hao-hello Fei hua- nonsense Jung chi duh go-se dway-steaming crap pile
