How does the money system work here? How do I get more platinum if I cannot find any jobs?
You can find all the information you need here. We no longer use the money system for this forum.
I know what most jobs are for; but what about the Drifter or Alliance Officer?
Drifters are those characters who don't really know where they lie in this world. They haven't been pinned to a specific career and are therefore up to anything that is offered to them. You could work as a partner-in-crime aside a crime boss or find a ship to crew on. You could just do odd jobs on your own and get your own place on a moon--though that would be a boring life! Drifters are very malleable characters.
Alliance Officers can captain and crew their own ships. They are like police officers, so they can either travel the 'verse and do their job or they can stay in one spot on a core planet to police the area. It will be up to the player as to what they want to do with their officer.
How do I upload an avatar/signature of my own?
To upload any graphic, you must first get an account on an image hosting site. I would strongly recommend www.photobucket.com .
To upload an Avatar: upload your image on your Photobucket, and get the link marked URL. Paste it into your profile where all avatar URLs go.
To upload a Signature: this is why I suggest Photobucket. To upload a signature is pretty much the same, but instead of copying the URL link to your clipboard, copy the IMG link instead. Then paste it into the Signature box located in your edit profile area.
*Note: Make sure your signature is no larger than 500x300 and your avatar 118x250. If they are, they will stretch the board and your images WILL be removed.
Why aren't there threads in some areas?
Because since The 'Verse is a Role-Play community, the role players create their own threads to begin role play. As the players, you control the game. You can start a new thread basically anywhere you'd like on the forum, as long as it is appropriate!
Why can't I play a Canon character?
Canon characters are not encouraged here because the only person who we feel can truly play them is Joss Whedon himself. If by some fluke we did happen to find someone who can do well by their canon, it is simply too much hassle trying to replace them, should they leave the forum. Cutting out canons promotes good roleplay, and decreases the number of fanboys/girls who simply want to ruin their favorite character by stepping into their shoes. ;]
Can I have More than One Character?
Actually, you may. But there are some conditions to doing so:
*You must create a new account for said character
*You MUST tell us that you're doing so, either by PM'ing an Admin or making note in your new character's registration post. If you do not, and I find out, you will be banned. If you don't want people to know about your alternate character that's fine, but you must tell us somehow.
*You may only have 3 characters maximum, and they must all be played actively. If you cannot handle all characters, request one or more to be deleted, or I will delete some for you without warning. Inactive=no posts for a month or longer.
Can my Character DIE?
Your character can only die IF you wish them to die. No one is allowed to kill your character without you consent. It is your character after all. Cases in which you would want your character killed are if you wanted to leave the forum gracefully, or if you want to create a new character in its place.
If you are inactive for a long amount of time, say six months, we will not delete your account. We will simply allow your character to be killed if it will deepen the plot.
How do we know what day it is? I'm getting very confused with the timeframes here, since we can role play in several different boards at once.
Don't let timeframes confuse you. In fact, don't worry about what day it is, ever. Primarily keep track of the month; the month is what will let you know what the timeframe is.
If it helps, state something that will give a hint to the timeframe in the first paragraph of your post, such as, "It is midday", so those who have threads based during the night can know that what they're doing has happened after what you have done. Or, if you want to be specific, state something such as, "This happened before the incident on the ship several days later." This will give others an idea of what their character is doing during your post.
If you cannot work the timeframe into your thread, I see nothing wrong with an OOC statement such as "This happened before dinner".
Don't get yourself confused trying to figure out what day it is, because since we all obviously can't be on each day together to role play day-by-day, we just kind of...go with the flow. You can specify different days whenever you see it fit (such as birthdays and holidays), but it is virtually impossible to stamp a specific day on some things. If you still can't understand, just think of it as you're attending daily jobs/dinners/etc, but you are role-playing just a few of them.
I hope that creates a better understanding.
Can I play my character's family members without having to make a new character?
In most cases, absolutely. For instance, a minor role that will not be seen often around the site is perfectly fine, like when your character is at home and is interacting with family members. But if you have a family member that you want to post with as frequently as your own character, I may ask you to just create a new character for that person.
Sometimes I feel very intimidated by you, or feel as if you're being very strict with me. It makes me feel like you don't want to be my friend or help me out--?
This is entirely not the case. Yes, sometimes I can be strict with you, but it is nothing personal. You will mainly realize that I'm being strict if you're breaking site rules frequently or if you fill my inbox up with questions that have already been answered here in the FAQs (or the rules, RPG guide, etc.).
I would love to be friends with all of you--but if you want me to choose between being your friend and not being your friend because I come down on you sometimes, I'm sorry, but my duties as the administrator of this site weighs heavier. But do not think I do not want to be your friend or that I am unfriendly, just because I become strict over some broken rules. I am always willing to have a nice conversation and am always willing to hear what you have to say, while at the same time I must let you know in firm words when you break rules, as to let you be sure that you will not do it again.
However, I am sorry if I ever make you feel small--this is definitely not a goal of mine and if you ever feel like I have come down too hard on you, please let me know so I can try to make you feel more comfortable. This holds true for all of the other admins as well.
