[Persephone Docks, January 19th 2523. 1230 hours]
Lars muttered sulkily to himself as he made his way back into the mess that was the Persephone docks. He had hoped to be gone by now, but thanks to the little "episode" with the crowd, he now had to wait. "Gorram drunks." he said, kicking a wayward pebble as he walked. He wasn't really paying much attention to where he was going, but for whatever reason he found his eyes drawn slightly upward as he passed under the shadow of a nearby ship. "Well... I'll be." He said, stopping and looking up at the craft. "A firefly." He couldn't help but smile.
He stood, looking rather silly as he gawked up at the ship. He wasn't sure why he was so interested, but he had heard so many stories about that particular style of ship, and he couldn't help but wonder. Shaking his head, he turned to make his way away from the ship, but found his way blocked by a rather large man, who was glaring down at him with arms crossed. "What now?" Lars murmured, looking around for anything he could use if need be. His fear proved pointless, when the man simply pushed him out of the way, and stalked past. Lars watched him go, wondering what had just happened, when his attention was siezed by the person who had been standing behind the monster. "Excuse me Ma'am..." He said, acting on impulse, "That isn't your ship... is it?"

The slim woman watched the tall temp pilot stalk off, nearly running someone over. She shook her head. The Raven had just made it to port, and she'd just payed the man. She eyed the man he'd almost run over for about half a second, then her gaze flicked off towards other things. She didn't need a fight, and she didn't need to fix it either. She sighed as he started to speak to her. Great.
"Yeah. She is." she said curtly, as she reached out to touch the firefly. A soft popping sound came from her, as the entire body started to cool down. This ship was her life, it was something that she needed, badly. She needed to get out, get away. The Raven was her ship to do that in. She glanced at the man. "Why?" it wasn't exactly impolite, but it was just a bit annoyed. Her accent was impeccable, she was from the core, and it was obvious in her voice, but the way she moved said soldier. She crossed her arms and leaned against the still warm hull of the ship, dark eyes watching him.

Lars was admittedly slightly taken aback by the harsh tone that the woman used, he found the roughness slightly out of place coming from her. He shook his head, ever so slightly, and then returned to the conversation. "Just curious," He said, smiling. "Fireflies aren't exactly common anymore..." He trailed off, slightly lost in the thoughts of the ship itself. He had always been rather fond of that type of ship, the name, the stories... Realizing he was staring again, he turned back to face the captain. "What brings you to Persephone?"
Taking the moment of silence, he took stock of her, and tried to get a gauge for who she was. Judging by her clothing, and her tone and demeanor, he was fairly certain she had been in the service. Soldiers had a certain way about them, and she had it. She also had the Core all about her, he had found it to be like oil, be around it long enough, and it almost seeped into your very skin. "And do you always hire giants?"

She nodded as he spoke. "True. Only 28,000 of them after all, and most scrapped." she could talk about Firefly's all day. She did love the ship, and Raven was even more important to her. Since the war well just after it, she'd been a bit lost, and the Raven made it easier to move, because she could get out in space. She eyed the man as he spoke again, and refrained from reading him, though she could, easily.
"Why is anyone on Persephone?" answer a question with a question. The soldier stayed leaning against her ship, eyes locked on the man. Her lips moved a bit in a smile. "Only when they have a use." she smirked just a little, glancing at the man. "Can't fly her myself, and a temporary pilot was needed." she offered, not that anyone would actually care, but she knew she couldn't get off this boat with out a pilot.

Lars was amused by her very short and sweet way of answering questions. She wasn't the type to beat around the bush, a soldier for sure. "I know the feeling," He said, when she referenced the need for a crew, "I was stuck on Osiris not too long ago, but lucky for me I found somebody." He smiled, "I wish i could help you, i can suggest the bars and the coretex, but I'm sure you already have that covered." He shrugged.
"Just out of curiosity, you were in something military...weren't you?" he didn't expect much of an answer, but he didn't have anything to lose.

She tended to ignore his next words, mainly because she felt a mind brush up against hers. Another Psychic. She kept a smile back. A young one from the feel of it. She hoped the alliance didn't pick him up and drag him off to be experimented on. She nodded at the man ignoring what he said, but getting the gist of it.
"Was Alliance, now just a normal civilian like everyone else." lies, she was no normal civilian. She was extremely dangerous, and willing to step up to fight when needed. She knew that she had extream control, but that as always, things got out of control. Eyed the man. "You?"

Lars saw her eyes go slightly blank for a moment as he was talking, and wondered if he was that boring. "My dad fought in the war.." He said, his voice all but cracking and he coughed to cover it. "What made you leave? The service i mean." He looked at her with curiosity. "I would have thought that..." Just then, a very odd sensation crept over him. He had felt it before, but not often. It felt like there was almost an itch on the inside of his skull. His eyes narrowed slightly, he didn't like these moments. He tried to push any thoughts of the sensation out of his mind, and to his surprise, they vanished. Then it was back, and worse, just like an itch. "Go, away." he murmured, and focused harder on ignoring it. "Sorry," He said, looking up at her, "Just needed a moment too clear my head."

The boy's voice caught her attention, and the thirty two year old woman stoped trying to figure out who was the psychic and actually looked at him. His father had fought in the war. That explained the familiarity that had been itching at the back of her head. "What was his name?" the slim woman stood up fully, pushing off from the Firefly.
"I left for reasons of my own." she said carefully, watching him. She reached out with her mind again. She and her brother had trained on one another, and while no one else knew, the twins had been very good psychics. She felt him push back, and she smiled. Yes, it was this boy. And he spoke. "No, You felt that, didn't you?" she asked, taking a step towards him. She'd dealt with Psychics after the war, but they were far and in between.

Lars wasn't sure how he felt about the sudden interest she had taken. It worried him slightly. "His name was Bjorn." He said, softly. "He died at Serenity." She stepped towards him, and his hand fell instinctively to his sword. He thanked god he had remembered to bring it. "Felt what?" He asked, confused and alarmed. He glanced around quickly, looking for any advantages he could employ if things got nasty. "I don't know what you are talking about." He decided to try another tactic.
"What kind of reasons?" He asked, his eyes returning to her. He had seen a pile of loose sand, and he thought, if he could just get to it, he could blind her long enough to get back to the safety of his crew. "I didn't know you could just pack up and leave."

She nodded. "Bjorn Engström? Good man." she said with a nod. "I know. Good soldier he was." she said quietly, lowering her head slightly. She brought up a memory of the man, and then let it fade. He'd been a good soldier, and she'd trusted him. He'd had a touch of powers to him, but not much. Nothing like hers.
She let the deal drop. It didn't matter. As long as he stayed away from any seriously dangerous Alliance he'd be fine, and even now it'd be stupid to try to take him and train him. Yes she knew about the acadamy, she just didn't like it and hadn't gone Something about it felt wrong.
Then she noticed him turning dangerous. "Relax boy. I'm not here to harm you. I have my own reasons, and It's not generally a good idea to pry where your not wanted Dong ma?" She stepped back. "Be careful who you talk to, there are those out there who don't take kindly to anyone." she knew it was criptic, at least partially, but still. He didn't know he was psychic, and she didn't know how to deal with one that didn't.

Lars was totally confused, he looked at her with wide eyes. "You knew...?" He couldn't finish, but she would know. He knew there would be those who had, in fact for a while he had looked for them. Asking any vets on either side about it. But after so many dead ends, and blank stares, he had given up. "Do you know... how he... how he..." He shrugged, hoping she would get it.
But then she said something about prying, and he was slightly stung. "Prying?" He asked, rather tersely. "I didn't know it was prying." He didn't know why he was so angry. "You were the one talking about weird feelings, and all that crazy." He felt his impulse take control of his next words. "I can see why she was screaming, the girl in white, you are impossible to deal with. Are you always this touchy?"

She nodded, eyeing him for a second. "He died saving a woman's life. I wasn't there, but I knew his CO." she said quietly. That was painful to remember. The loss on both sides were horrendous in Serenity Valley, she never ever wanted to go back.
"Pushin' to someone's past when they obviously don't want you to is prying." she snapped, loosing her cool. A group of memories. Standing, miles away, shooting the rifle, or closer with the bow, or up right next to them. A girl in white flashed by, then a boy in brown. Then the boy spoke again, and her gun came out, pointed at him. "What did you just say?" her voice was perfectly calm. "Girl in white? How... You... Gāisǐ de! Get out of my head!" she snarled, pyushing hard against his mind, then instantly pulling away, closing her mind down, and still holding the gun, slightly shaking at him.

Lars took a step closer to her, when she spoke of his father, but before he could ask more, she had a gun, then he was hit with images, fast and thick, they flew across his eyes like an old movie. He heard her saying something like "get out of my head." and then felt what seemed like a punch in the face, inside his head. "What are you?" He asked, slightly staggered.
He stared at her with somewhat wild eyes. "You killed them... didn't you?" He felt mortified, his vision blurred a little. "No wonder they didn't want you in the army. You... You aren't a soldier, you are a murderer."

She was having a hard time focusing. She shoved her fear and anger back. Her dark eyes locked on the boy. "What do you think Soldiers are boy? Heroes? Wrong." she snarled. "On the battle field, we kill or be killed, and we follow orders. That's all I was doing, Following orders. Alliance doesn't take kindly to you not." she snarled, steadying the gun. She slipped back into solider mode, but lowered the gun, still holding it.
"Don't you dare to assume I am a murderer. You don't know what I've been through." her voice was deathly quiet, and she pulled herself up to her full five foot eight hight, not nearly as tall as him, but there was something in the stance. On she was fallible, and it was likely that if it came to a fight, the only way she'd win would be through subterfuge and trickery. "I'm the same as you." she murmured, this time she sent a soft thought to him, a quiet almost calm thought. Can you hear this?

Lars was now lost from all that he had thought he knew. "Not heroes, but still people." He said, somewhat disjointed. He was scared, he felt out of his depth and he knew it. Then she spoke again, almost threatening, with her opposition to being called a murderer. But it was her last words that caught him. "We are nothing alike." He said, almost spitting. He watched as she stood up taller, and then continued. "You don't know me."
Then he heard a voice, her voice, but he had his eyes on her face and her mouth never moved. He stiffened, just for a moment, and then moved. In a fluid motion he drew his sword, and took a step that brought him up to her. He used his height and overall size to force her back against the side of her ship, and brought the blade up against her throat. "You lying, sneaky little b***h." He said, anger evident in his face and words, "And you said I was in your head, give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you know." He glared down at her. "You have been playing me from the start, haven't you. I bet you never even knew my father."
